It wouldn't do to say cop/drug B-movies have to be either serious or trashy; good B-movies have been both for forever. Rush aspires to such a combination: rough production values, moments of stylish movie-buff hedonism, a surprisingly thoughtful ambition, and a good ending. But it needs trimmer editing and a better actor than Jason Patric. This is a 120 minute movie begging to take amphetamines and clock in at 90.
Soooo Crappy! I saw it on a list of someone's on this site and I thought, "I missed this when it came out but maybe it was good". Wrong! gargled dog nuts! Don't waste the precious minutes of your life!
I must have seen this film at least 20 times since 1991, between video rentals and late-night TV showings. It has some glaring plot flaws, but it's well worth watching for the nicely seedy, gritty 70s atmosphere and period detail; Eric Clapton's bluesy guitar score; and superb performances by Patric and Leigh at her most radiantly beautiful.
