Do yourself a favor and just read the book. In this case, the book is immensely beyond better than the film. I know, I know- everyone constantly says that. This film didn’t even begin to touch on Denver’s life or his relationship with Debbie. Both are pivotal to the story. If I had not read the book 7-8 years prior to seeing the film, I wouldn’t have a clue the impact or importance of Denver & Debbie’s story.
The film actually hits a commendable stride of human interest when it focuses on Denver. Unfortunately, its momentum flounders when it returns focus on Ron and Debbie a couple with boringly generic characterization. The worst thing about these Christian films based on true stories is they are too mawkish for their own good. This one's worst trait was it had me thinking it was different rather than the same.
