Very interesting comedy of manners whose main theme is provocation. I also liked the mise en abîme: Bergman, a Swedish born actress, plays a Creole girl who must put a lot of white powder on her face in order to look like a real aristocratic French countess. That's Hollywood!
Florence Bates and Ingrid Bergman have a splendid confrontation in this enjoyable comedy-romance. Bergman sings in the film too. What a "Merry Widow" she would have made! And then there is Flora Robson.
