Cult director Radley Metzger goes all the way in Score, a tale of a happily married bisexual swinging couple, who make a bet that they can seduce a couple of naive young newlyweds during a weekend get-together at their luxury Riviera villa.
This film is not currently playing on MUBI but 30 other great films are. See what's now showing
If you are looking for porno, you will probably be disappointed, even tho the whole film is about sex-there isn't that much actual graphic sex in it (the existing version has 8.5 minutes cut from the original). There is a great scene of 2 guys kissing-not something I often see in cinema. All the Radley Metzger films I have seen have been very well-made, far better than the average soft-core films of that period.
Balancing on the tightrope between hard corn and soft porn, a triumphant victory of directorial ebullience (all those show-offy shots and the wonderful, conscious use of indoor space), humor and pizzazz over a small budget and bad actors (expect of course for the incredible Claire Wilbur). What a delight!
Veteran swinger couple plots to lure wide-eyed heteronormative newlyweds into bed using lies, manipulation and drugs, and it's somehow not super creepy. Nicely done! Not the smartest or most beautifully shot of Metzger's films, but one of the most charming. (They play dress up! There's a cowboy & sailor gay sex scene!!) Subversively progressive (if not a model of consent) & delightful. Lynn Lowry was adorable. 3.5
*Literally* swinging 70s fun. Actually sexy. Progressive for a 70s Euro softcore. The director's cut almost has more graphic man on man action than anything else - and keep in mind there's lady on lady pegging on poppers in this. Recommended if you're into classy bi smut from the middle of the sexual revolution. Homage to Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf meets fuck film. Loses a star for a slightly slow start.
Metzger is a very original and unique storyteller. This is one of his greatest efforts. Even from our today standards, it's rare to see both lesbian and gay couples in the same flick, specially involving sex scenes. That was the free love generation!
