Synopsis

Through interviews with survivors, witnesses, and former perpetrators, memories of the Holocaust unfold across the landscapes where it occurred. Over images of the Polish fields and forests that once were Treblinka, Chelmno, and Auschwitz, voices recount stories of deportation and survival.

Our take

Examining the most violent period of the Nazi genocide, the second half of Lanzmann’s unsparing and unshakeably moral work is a singular document of one of history’s darkest moments. Culminating with the story of the Warsaw Ghetto rebellion, Shoah’s final note is one of resolute human dignity.
