There's a part where Mitch Pileggi, playing a poor man's Freddy Krueger, chases Peter Berg through a bunch of TV channels. They fight to the death against the backdrop of nuclear bomb test footage while late-80s heavy metal plays in the background. Pileggi says stuff like "C'mere you little shit" & laughs maniacally. This + other flashes of weirdness almost make up for the mostly tedious exposition & lame kills.
In my opinion, Craven's failures are almost more interesting than his triumphs and Shocker is the perfect example of this dichotomy. It's completely absurd yet surprisingly slick and packed with some of the most stylish visuals of the man's career. It's also one of the most entertaining films Craven ever made, perfecting the gallows humor he so often aimed for.
