Beautiful, interesting, incredible cinema.
Sofia lives in a quiet village in the Andes and has never seen the sea. For many years, her husband has promised to take her to the Caribbean, but the plans are always thwarted for different reasons. Finally one day, Sofia decides to leave her husband at home and embark on this journey by herself.
A vehicle for legendary Spanish actor Carmen Maura (an early, frequent muse of Almodóvar), this charming contemporary fairytale is bolstered by her central, near-silent performance. Maura is the similarly fearless Sofia, a woman motivated to break out of the monotony of her life.
