Standard Pierson melodrama dressed up in drag that fails dramatically thanks to some weak performances. Not Lee Pace mind you who is quite brilliant in his transformation to the transitioned drag performer/soldier's girl. The weakness lies with an understated turn by Troy Garrity and a mugging turn by Shawn Hatosy who is just awful here. Worthwhile watch for Pace alone.
Although it never quite escapes its low budget, made-for-tv aesthetic (if only they got financial backing to expand this into a feature), this is an genuinely powerful and tragic love story. Two incredible leads with an intense chemistry that the filmmakers do not flinch from. Lee Pace is mesmerizing!
