Critics reviews

It’s long on atmosphere of the lush, Wongian variety. The performance scenes are the main draw.

What are people saying?

  • Alfin's rating of the film Song Lang

Leon Le–whom I never heard before–surprises me with his first feature film "Song Lang", a movie about Vietnamese folk opera golden era. It's beautifully shot and has a distinct (Wong Kar-wai) personality.

  • Aaken's rating of the film Song Lang

Leon Le's beautifully detailed depiction of the Saigon of the 80's brings the audience on the road of nostalgia. But the romance between Dung, an embittered gangster and Linh Phung, a young theatre performer fortunately never gets sentimental, as Leon Le prefers to hint rather than show, and injects a darker tone reminiscent of Hong Kong films noirs. The two leads are perfect. A revelation.
