Delivered with a subtle malice, Spawn explores the most hellish parts of humanity in a hyper-stylized, oppressively dark minimalism that contains probably more black than anything else. Absorbingly realistic sound design and voice acting sets it apart from most animation and the bleak atmosphere is punctuated with an eerie, doomy score. A midnight counterpart to Batman: TAS and completely underrated.
The only thing I didn't like was how choppy the scenes were like those motion-comics (perhaps it was one?), it made it seem poorly edited like Gangs of New York. Scene, pause, scene, pause, it is hard to let it absorb you like it was designed to when each cut draws you straight out of it.
