When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.
This film is not currently playing on MUBI but 30 other great films are. See what's now showing
[Spoilers] Entertaining in that slick-as-a-gallon-of-oil way, where every plot device is touched on and timed to perfection, production values are "spectacular" (i.e., expensive), no one dies, and nothing really matters.
So, Star Trek is a big dumb action movie now? The first half was terrible, the second half kind of fun, but very forgettable. Should have ended 20 minutes earlier. Terrible camera work and editing of action scenes, or am I just getting old? Meh
Another successful mission with the Enterprise. That ship-falling-down-to-earth-followed-by-final-chase-and-showdown ending was totally epic! Great job once again, Mr. Abrams. Expect more in the Star Trek universe. :)
One of the best entries to the long running film series yet. I understand fans loyalty to the original portrayals but this is one of the most consistently entertaining and action filled entries. Pine and Quinto have grown into their characters and both give performances of a high caliber but its Cumberbatch who makes this entry something special with a reinvention of a character that he totally makes his own.
The bromance between Spock and Jimmy was perfect; I was fighting tears in places and I have no shame in admitting it. If you're well-versed on the old films and the show, there are loads of great surprises and role-reversals. Emotional, suspenseful, terrific sci-fi.
Star Trek into LENS FLAIRS! Abrams delivers again. I know fans are mixed on this installment but as a pure action/adventure film this was a lot of fun. First blockbuster this summer that works for me, makes Iron Man 3 look amateurish.
On point with but just slightly less than the previous Star Trek movie. All the characters but Kirk, Spock and Khan kind of got pushed off to the side but Star Trek Into Darkness was very entertaining nonetheless. The parallels with Wrath of Khan were neat but it was just overall a very entertaining follow-up to the movie that made me a born-again Star Trek fan.
Not as great as the first one, but still an incredibly exciting and entertaining blockbuster! Some moments were moving and the old Trek references were clever and tactful. Love all the members of the Enterprise as much as the first film and Cumberbatch was just captivating, he's one of those actors you just can't look away from. Not a Trekkie, but I thought this was a damn good movie! Hope the new series continues.
