Roué, a middle-aged architect, is unhappy in his marriage and starts a romance with the young and beautiful Florentine, only to find out that she may be his child from an old affair. With her mother dead, the truth remains a mystery while problems with Roué’s legitimate daughter arise.

Our take

A much-missed Ennio Morricone composed the score to this steamy Spanish-Italian sex film, starring a world-weary Marcello Mastroianni and a young Nastassja Kinski at the height of her charms. A cult erotic drama about incest, age gaps, and absent father figures that’s very much of its time!

Critics reviews

Regrettably, Lattuada opts for neither Blier-like transgressive farce nor Visconti-esque operatic tragedy, settling for a pedantic study of cross-generational mores akin to Clint Eastwood’s contemporaneous Breezy—al the while drooling over teenage Kinski, who adorns her walls with portraits of Freud and “Papa” Hemingway.
