Beautiful, interesting, incredible cinema.
In Roman-occupied Judea, Jesus refuses to have his words and actions inscribed in stone or on parchment in fear of them becoming dogma. His closest disciple, Judas, is tasked to locate and destroy a gospel that was clandestinely scripted by one of the other disciples, against Jesus’ will.
Rabah Ameur-Zaïmeche plays one of the world’s great outsiders—Jesus’ disciple Judas—in this Algeria-set revision of the famous Biblical tale. Shining a more compassionate light on Judas than others before him, the film rethinks the last days of Jesus from the perspective of his closest follower.
