We should be appalled by how innocent Reagan's America now seems, from the standpoint of our current winter of discontent. One of the nice things about those far-gone days: it was possible to make populist comedies w/ a twinge of the countercultural, a constructively insubordinate attitude, and no real intention to work hard at pleasing every conceivable strata of audience member. Particular pleasurable pleasures.
