In both [Tarzan the Ape Man and Tarzan and His Mate], Tarzan and Jane’s chimpanzee Cheetah gets a chance to mourn an older ape who has died protecting Tarzan. The scenes are done with a sense of tact instead of a determination to squeeze the audience for tears.
