Beautiful, interesting, incredible cinema.
Salam, a charming 30-year-old Palestinian living in Jerusalem, works on the popular Palestinian soap opera Tel Aviv on Fire, produced in Ramallah. Every day Salam must pass through an Israeli checkpoint, where army officer Assi tries to use his power to get involved in the writing of the show.
A film about the mundane life of characters working on a TV soap but told against the background of the Israel-Palestine conflict. It’s a beautiful ‘meta’ way to tell a complex story and Tel Aviv on Fire does a fantastic job of humanising everyone in the best way possible – comedy & empathy. – VM
