I distinctly recall Jerzy Skolimowski introducing a BFI retrospective of his work in the early 19890s and referring to The Adventures of Gerard as “the worst film ever made”. It’s certainly not that, but it does feel out of place in his career, and was probably made a lot more for expedience than love.
