Reboot movie but why retell so much of the origin story? We don't need to see Uncle Ben die again on screen. Better then to finally see the Lizard as the villain then. Worst thing about this film is the main actor who is terribly miscast and looks totally wrong for the role being too slick and perfect when he should play a misfit and an insecure teenager. The comic strip style is also skipped for more darker colors.
No chemistry between characters, no ultimate goal, no real threat (after all) - not a strong web. If the story was aiming to be an answer to "Who am I?", as the teacher mentioned, it failed since it leaves the audience with a hollow bond to Peter. Plus (and ignoring other poor casting choices), the fact that a group of people agreed that Emma Stone would make an acceptable Stacy Gwen is beyond understanding.
I prefer this film over the first Sam Raimi take on the concept. It's a conflicted film, that doesn't know if it wants to be about intrigue and mystery, or about the soft gentle romance between its leads. The film is always strongest when indulging in the chemistry of its leads, and when its proud to be a fun silly super hero film.
