The Battle of Sutjeska, known as ‘’Fifth offensive’’, is the hardest, most tragic and the greatest battle that was led Yugoslav Partisans in World War II. Made for the 30th anniversary of the battle, this is the most expensive film in the history of Yugoslav cinema.
This film is not currently playing on MUBI but 30 other great films are. See what’s now showing
Sutjeska and Neretva are two movies that I can't help but to feel a bit proud of from the local-patriot standpoint. There isn't, what you may come to expect, the portrayal of communism as the liberating force but instead it's more about the common struggle of the ordinary people against the stronger opponent. And the production value is mind-boggling at times, not to mention the scenery.
