About a 'baxter', a term for the guy in the movie who gets dumped by the leading lady for the leading man. It's a very funny film, mocking the cliches of rom-coms with a murderer's row of comedic talent, but doesn't reach the heights of Wet Hot American Summer or They Came Together; due to the PG-13 rating & that it focuses on its own film's baxter, a generic entity who is every film's least interesting character.
The Baxter is incredibly clever in its lampooning of the romantic comedy genre, and yet it also manages to be one of the more tender pieces from the lot. Michael Showalter's all around performance as an actor, director, and writer really impresses. He shares adorable chemistry with Michelle Williams, and Elizabeth Banks & Justin Theroux are just too damn hilarious. It's a legitimate romantic comedy that works well.
