I can't believe this is only my first time seeing this iconic piece of Australian cinema. As an Aussie myself, I found this hilarious and oh so relatable, full of quotable lines and character moments. I do think it loses something in the second half when it focuses more on the legal battles rather than the specifics of the family. Though, Bud Tingwell as a kindhearted QC almost makes up for it. Sweet and delightful.
This is the quintessential Australian movie. No matter your background, not matter if you are wealth or poor, you can see your family in this movie. Ask any Australian what the best film is and they will say The Castle. Made for about $20,000, it is the pinnacle of the D-Gen crew's pre stardom gold. Brash, witty and silly at times, this is gold. Also the most quoted movie I own.
