should be taken more seriously. fonda and lemmon have a way of slipping into their roles so well that what could’ve been melodramatic or absurdly sensationalist becomes believable, and even a bit moving. flawed but incredible.
An incredible thriller, and a poignant film in two ways: showing corporate greed at the risk of injuring thousands, and how our news media is so manipulated. The latter was done better in Network, but is brought back into light here. Fonda slips into her role seamlessly and Lemmon as always is in top form, and here turns in one of the defining performances of his career. Douglas produced a classic. 5 stars. Essential
