Affectionate portrait of Tim “Speed” Levitch, a tour guide for Manhattan’s Gray Line double-decker buses. He talks fast, is in love with the city, and dispenses historical facts, architectural analysis, and philosophical musings in equal measures.

The Cruise is a lucid debut from Bennett Miller, who seems to capture his subject's soul in this fascinating documentary about a tour guide, a poet, and (above all else) a cruiser. Levitch's knowledge of New York is unrivaled and his diatribes are profound. The penultimate scene where Speed twirls around in between the Two Towers is very powerful and poetic. 9/10
Beauty is not only a pursuit but a state of mind. To live beautifully in the face of banality gives life meaning. Timothy Levitch understands this, and is better for knowing it. Just as I am now better in some small way for knowing him..
