Blending his personal history with metaphor, mythology and poetry, The Dance of Reality reflects Jodorowsky’s philosophy that reality is not objective but rather a “dance” created by our own imaginations.
This film is not currently playing on MUBI but 30 other great films are. See what's now showing
I'm shocked by how intensely I was swept away by this film's cadence and style. One can easily dismiss its images and its themes as red herrings, but then, if you do, you're missing the whole point. It's all or nothing with Jodorowsky's magical realism - his banality of life is set to music.
a different look of jodo's surreal world. my heart and my eyes dance when the ending scene appear. jodo's past formed as a collection of grey boards with the red little soldier in it. while people waiting for many upcoming blockbuster in 2016, i'm faithfuly waiting for endless poetry.
El interior deslumbrante. La sombra del padre. La madre del corazón. El niño que llevamos dentro. La muerte, lo descarnado siempre. La Latinoamérica que duele siempre. Y el tránsito de niño a hombre. Cinco estrellas.
After all these years, he's still got it. It was stimulating from beginning to end and showed a more hysterical side to Jodorowsky that I really enjoyed. Just as bizarrely surreal as his other films with themes you'll already be familiar with in his work, but a new experiment altogether.
Had the opportunity to watch this with the master himself in Berlin! Viewing while in the presence of greatness was a climax all in itself. Alejandro Jodorowsky does what he wants when he wants it! A lesson in humanity! Bravo Jodorowsky!
Alejandro's best so far, I am very glad to say. Every bit as weird as El Topo or The Holy Mountain, but lacking the cryptic plot structure making it a film that will appeal to a much wider audience without ever sacrificing his trademark style. Words cannot express the joyous feeling this film instilled in me from beginning to end, and for a good deal of time after. A masterpiece 5/5
