Blending his personal history with metaphor, mythology and poetry, The Dance of Reality reflects Jodorowsky’s philosophy that reality is not objective but rather a “dance” created by our own imaginations.
This film is not currently playing on MUBI but 30 other great films are. See what's now showing
a different look of jodo's surreal world. my heart and my eyes dance when the ending scene appear. jodo's past formed as a collection of grey boards with the red little soldier in it. while people waiting for many upcoming blockbuster in 2016, i'm faithfuly waiting for endless poetry.
Jodorowsky preventing the "kid within" from committing suicide; with a loving embrace and comforting wisdom, is one of the most heartwarming scenes I´ve seen in a while. Ah, Jodoworsky! You are a true magician. The love of life is radiating in this film! The fools journey, in all its glory.
DoR follows a clear thread, making it way more interesting than his older, overtly symbolic, oddity extravaganzas. Not that a film needs order to be good, but in the case of Jodo’s style, a little moderation has done wonders.
Cinematically his images seem to have a purpose, a continuity, instead of the inconsistent sequence of ‘cool’ ideas present in his older films.
Jodowliebers will be pleased nonetheless.
Alejandro's best so far, I am very glad to say. Every bit as weird as El Topo or The Holy Mountain, but lacking the cryptic plot structure making it a film that will appeal to a much wider audience without ever sacrificing his trademark style. Words cannot express the joyous feeling this film instilled in me from beginning to end, and for a good deal of time after. A masterpiece 5/5
