The Electric Horseman Directed by Sydney Pollack

What are people saying?

  • J.J. 'Jake' Gittes's rating of the film The Electric Horseman

One of the great works of Sydney Pollack. Not-typical but great Robert Redford together with marvellous Jane Fonda. "Rising Star", the horse, is in danger. Sonny Steele sold his soul to a nutrition company and he realizes, almost before it's too late, how wrong he did. Now he does, what counts. The world rodeo champion returns to his roots. Smoothly, steadily composed story with some surprising moments. Great cinema.

  • Dalibor's rating of the film The Electric Horseman

Socio-economic transformation of the ageing american West seen through personal transformation of an ageing rodeo cowboy. However basic that might sound, it starts as intriguingly written and exquisitely edited perspective! Unfortunately, just as rouged West turned into a tiring eye candy, so did the film. And what could have been a proper shot at western-ish "Raging Bull" became just another of Pollack's melodramas.
