One of my favourite Švankmajer shorts because unlike the vast majority of Poe adaptations on film, understands that the thrumming energy of insensate, vegetable horror (grasped intuitively by the over-sensitive monomaniac) animates Poe's horror. Each of the cracks in the walls and varnish is a scream here. Filth has very rarely looked so horribly beautiful. One day Things (not objects - but Things!) will rule us all.
