The young Chinese immigrant Xiaobin arrives in Argentina without a word of Spanish, yet she already has a new name, Beatriz, and a job in a supermarket. As she tries to find her way through the contradictions of her new life, she meets Vijay. Through him, she begins to see her future differently.
It’s not very often a film is conceptually clever and modest at the same time. German-born, Argentina-based Nele Wohlatz has made a resolutely humble comedy about the possibilities of language. Unassumingly smart, it captures what being an immigrant feels like with irresistible warmth and empathy.
