A long hot summer in rural Norfolk and a rough coming of age for Goob Taylor, fighting with brutal, womanizing stock car racer Gene Womack for his mother’s attention, and falling for the exotic charms of a pretty foreign field worker.

An enjoyable meandering through an overly simplified world of low brow characters and beautiful countrysides. Great performances done on a meagre script, with a killer soundtrack and a natural (if not voyeuristic) aesthetic. Non-essential, but strangely engaging.
The Goob's camera work makes the most of an eerie yet idyllic landscape, but aside from the fantastic soundtrack I can't help but feel disappointed. - The Goob is merely a pretty innocuous answer to Gummo
"We call 'im the futtin' goob."
It's not totally original, and it reinforces Norfolk stereotypes, but it really draws you in and transports you to its "world". Makes Norfolk look really filthy, not a film for the Norfolk tourist board that's for sure.
