The stylisation of the film is impeccable. The black & white colour scheme, use of wide-angle lenses & jarring close-ups suggest a real sense of confinement & subjugation, but also evoke the presentation of a chessboard & with it the notion of "the game." While its deceptions draw too heavily on the influence of The Usual Suspects to offer any genuine surprises, the film is still incredibly well directed & performed.
Gripping psychological drama that does not lose focus. Outstanding performances from the cast and especially the 2 leads: Hugo Weaving and Tony Martin and a fantastic directorial debut from Craig Monahan. Very highly recommended and a big thank you to my friend for recommending this!
