The story is set in Rome, in the year 1921. Ulysses (Alain Delon) enrolls in the Italian Fascist party because he cannot find any employment. The first task entrusted to him by the party leads Ulysses to the printer Fossati, where he’s hired as an apprentice.

Alain Delon as an orphan whose economic plight compels him first to the wages of the Blackshirts, then to the motions of Anarchism and terrorism; the motions, of course, to maintain the esteem that Barbara Lass' huge eyes cast on ideology in action--fake bombs for the love of a young subversive element. Through the humour, a final indictment of Italian Fascism, on the rayless horizon, the years to come.
