Tracing the rising threat of Osama bin Laden and Al-Qaeda, it takes a controversial look at how the rivalry between the CIA and FBI inadvertently might have set the stage for the tragedy of 9/11 and the war in Iraq.

3.5 so far. Watched 5 episodes in one night. Very interesting. Homeland is by far the most exciting series on right now, but nice to have another quality intelligence/terror/spy piece to go along with Bureau and Berlin Station.
A rare case of generic directing, completely derivative of David Fincher, being somewhat forgivable because of the occasionally solid writing. The "forming of a child bomber in Afghanistan" section has a lyrical power to it that is very rare in American films and series about the middle-east. Much of the rest, though, ends up striving for the usual sentimental bullshit that haunts these topics.
A very well executed look at the pre 9/11 culture of the CIA & FBI and their failures, personal and professional. The Looming Tower takes multiple stories and leads each one convincingly towards that final moment when the World cracked. Some of the time spent with Al Qaeda members are so beautiful and sincere that the violence they unleashed feels all the more threatening. Infuriating and thrilling.
