  • João Eça's rating of the film The Mother and the Sea

Because this film is absolutely aware of the contemporary class struggle and the abyss between a bourgeois cinema crew and the proletarian fishermen of Vila de Chã and because Tocha develops several complex Brechtian techniques this films gains a dense and rare political meaning in a Capitalist world. Tocha also captures the mysticism of the sea that is so hard to explain and even harder to shoot. Very recommended.
