Not a film to be judged properly, but of the fragmented 45 minutes that remains it appears to have been a truly fascinating step for Welles. The editing here is truly stunning, even more avant-garde in form than F For Fake and to have seen this in all of Welles' intended glory would have been incredible, but we should be grateful with what we've been left with, it's some of the finest Welles paraphernalia around. 4/5
The forty five minutes of this film I've seen is some of my favorite work by Welles (and I've seen most all of Welles' films.) I wish they could allow the rest of it to be seen. Welles uses a rapid cutting rate in his editing similar to, but much better employed than, that used in F for Fake. Huston is pretty frightening as Jake, but I believe that his great cagey performance of a great man's end is just perfect.
