One dark summer night, Francesca Cunningham, a once world famed pianist, escapes from her hospital room and tries to commit suicide by jumping off a local bridge. She is rescued and taken back to the hospital and undergoes psychological treatment by Dr. Larsen.

While Alfred Hitchcock was using psychoanalysis to solve murders in the US, Compton Bennett, in London, was using Freud and hypnotism to help a young girl in playing piano again and in finally choosing her husband between the three men who are courting her. As usual, mothers, absent or too present, are the persons responsible on both continents. Highly recommended.
