In this mesmerizing film about betrayal and justice, a shogun general has been murdered, and no one knows who is responsible. In time, the general’s younger son, Tadanaga, realizes that his older brother, Iemitsu, may be the culprit.

Plays like a who's who of Japanese character actors (which is fun), and a history-bending account of double-crosses, murder and general mayhem (which is better). The ending deals a surprising yet fantastic Guignol kind of narrative perversity.
