Serviceable fantasy film produced by Kennedy/Marshall that certainly lacks the magic provided by their earlier partner (Spielberg). Waters fails to coax much from his cast and the films effects already feel much older then the film's 2008 release. Sara Bolger scores in an under written role.
What a corny fantasy! This brings up everything I dislike about films for kids nowadays: an excessive use of 3D animation, boring acting, recycled material and cliche climax. With a more poetic vision, this would have made it. Better luck next try, Hollywood.
The only downpart about this movie was that it ended! I'm not usually one for children's fantasy but this was such a sweet movie. Loved this movie. Definitely a must-watch for someone who's a child at heart and with a child-like curiosity about the world.
It's basically a Steven Spielberg wannabe. It doesn't even come close to "E.T.", or "Jurassic Park," or even "Hook". It also steals from "The Goonies" and "Harry Potter." "The Spiderwick Chronicles" is a weak mixture of elements from better movies. Its characters are underdeveloped, the acting is bad, and the film relies too heavily on bad CGI special effects. Do yourself a favor and skip this tripe.
