Not having seen the TV-show I had little to compare with but despite this it is obvious this is not a very good film. The script and direction is "geezered" to the max so the tone becomes parodic and silly. Winstone chews the scenery as does most of the actors. Apart from a good turn from Ben Drew and a cracking "Mann-shoot-out" in Trafalgar Square, there is not much fun to be had watching this poorly made movie.
Goddamn this is awful. This could have been some bad ass mix of HEAT and NARC, the two best four letter all caps cop titles ever. But instead it's just a mix of SWAT and SHIT. SHIT isn't a real movie, but it's about half of this one. The other half is that dude from Harry Brown with the crazy eyes just staring weirdly at people. You're a detective, not some douche at the mall trying to impress teenagers. Terrible.
Look, Nick Love should not be allowed to make films! He is crap! Such a wasted opportunity that could have delivered big time. Great cast, brilliant premise, durable legacy - two stars purely because it could have been so much better.
