  • Adam Whybray's rating of the film The Water Babies

2.4 stars. Undoubtedly cheap and cheerful but not completely without its charms, inc. James Mason at his hammiest. Certainly less dour than the Victorian book, which scared me as a child, though the animation has the washed-out quality typical of Polish animation of the period. Oddly, it is a film with some really excellent transitions inc. clever graphical matches using almost abstract animation! High Cockalorum!
