An omnibus, five servings, four from certified masters, one from a guy I believe I've heard of. Really, though, the whole thing was put together by Dino for his wife Silvana, unceasingly & singularly great every moment of her professional life. Wistful suggestion of themes in the direction of witch. Mask & countermask. Woman is not the cause of man’s agony; should woman becomes man’s agony, that's on man himself.
Uneven portmanteau with the ravishing Silvana Mangano as the common thread in the five shorts. Undoubtedly, Pasolini is the winner here with a delighful and colourfuly tragicomic trio (Mangano with Toto and Davoli). Visconti's episode has class but is spineless and De Sica's critique on gender roles mainly interesting for Clint Eastwood's involvment. Bolognini and Rossi, too short and not as satirical as intended.
