Of a time when cinema was fighting for its place as an art form. Dulac's attempt to establish the movement-image as something like poetry or dance by removing purpose, context, outcome; leaving only unified motion. Working prior to the surrealists, Dulac (esp. as a woman) was genuinely groundbreaking. Still, the piece seems a bit banal & literal. Pretty agitprop for an idea, rather than its true exploration. 3.5
YES! I've been thinking about this theme for a long time, this is like the consumation and the best example of my thoughts. I wish i remembered and made this before Dulac, it's genius, machines are made by humans, humans only live and evolve because of the machines, let's forget that humans and machines are different, let's talk about movement, forms, senses to end up in a huge blank of the abstract.
