Our take

A burlesque theater faces demolition in this wistful homage to the Mexico City of the 1940s and 1950s. One of Alberto Isaac’s most popular films, Tivoli is full of spirited musical numbers and exotic dancers, yet also mounts a scathing argument against gentrification, and corrupt politicians.
