Gabino, Luisa, and Paco live in a small apartment in Mexico City. They don’t have cold water, their refrigerator has just broke, and their dog has gone missing. When tensions in the house begin to rise, they decide to take a trip to the forest.
This film is not currently playing on MUBI but 30 other great films are. See what's now showing
I don't know what I want to do, I don't know what to do, I know I must do something, but I don't want to do anything while time passes. But if I continued to wait, something hopeful would come & change my life drastically.....although young people think that, such a thing cannot come. It's curse called "Youth". This movie depicts that precisely, but finally dir makes them search for hope by their foot. Deeply moving.
====== Slow, long, quiet but sad observation of characters without money or a goal in the life ... this mess ... is it just about the film, the story of these three young people or the Mexican society ???
More a sketch of a relationship between a young couple, their needy friend, an invisible dog and some dodgy plumbing. It goes nowhere, you could start in the middle and then watch the end before the beginning, it wouldnt matter. But that's the idea I guess. Being together - expressing feelings, resolving issues, just getting by - all the banalities that make up genuine lasting relationships.
A nice little film about a young couple and their everyday problems. If you're looking for a film with a strong narrative this might not be the film for you but if you feel like watching the everyday struggle of a poor couple in love you might enjoy this film, I sure did.
Loved the pacing. The movie has a very airy, almost meditative feel to it. Long scenes with plenty of time to reflect and muse in the spaces between the sparse dialogue. Forest sequence made me think of the excellent Old Joy (2006) by Kelly Reichardt, or Falkenberg Farewell (also from '06 as it happens) by Swedish director Jesper Ganslandt. It just put me in the same kind of mood is all, no similarities beyond that.
