Ratings & Reviews

  1. Daniel Iván's rating of the film Tokyo Fiancée

This is a weird movie in the best of the ways. All the time there's a sensation of oddity, of something quite uncanny or tense in a cute way. The ending is so rushed and unexpected as 70% percent of the rest of the movie, which is a good thing. Nice. To watch and forget.

  2. Siaudebert's rating of the film Tokyo Fiancée

    Looks and tastes like Nothomb

  3. lisa's rating of the film Tokyo Fiancée

  4. Narrante's rating of the film Tokyo Fiancée

A reactionary and xenophobic movie in its apparent innocence. Japan is treated like a mere playground for a eurocentric discourse about self-identity and the impossibility of accepting otherness. Everything unfamiliar - language, values, expectations - has to fit into the western eye, never the opposite. In the end Japan is seen as an inaccessible, incomprehensible world and a change of circumstances as unattainable.

  5. Stephane Tanaka's rating of the film Tokyo Fiancée

  6. Sophie C.'s rating of the film Tokyo Fiancée

Has a certain charm but stays very much on the surface.
