I am delighted to report that Trumbo merits every bit of the hype that surrounded it. To my mind, it is the best narrative film about the blacklist that Hollywood has yet produced. Buoyed by a standout performance by Cranston, Trumbo is fast-paced and funny, and rather nimbly summarizes many of the political and industrial issues that led to the institution of the blacklist in 1947.
