Strangely, I've somehow avoided seeing this film over the years even though it stars two of my favourite actors. On first viewing it's somewhat of a disappointment, never really escaping its stage origins despite some crisply shot location photography and a nice score from Previn. Mitch seems uncomfortable in his role regardless of the obvious on-screen chemistry with MacLaine which resulted in an off-screen affair..
Jerry Ryan: Right away we have problems. What show? Where to eat?
Gittel 'Mosca' Moscawitz: Wait! Now I'm not so sure. I don't know if I want to get involved. You sound complicated.
Jerry Ryan: Oh.
Gittel 'Mosca' Moscawitz: I'm the girl, right? And you're the man. Make up your mind, ask me, and I'll make up mine.
