Beautiful, interesting, incredible cinema.
In 1997, Avikunthak filmed a sequence of a friend immersing an idol of Ganesha at Chowpati beach, Bombay on the last day of the Ganapati festival. A year later, his friend committed suicide. After twelve years, Avikunthak completed as a requiem to his friend.
Beginning as a requiem to a friend, Vakratund Swaha is a deeply personal, contemplative take on the rituals that symbolise a new life after death. An inventive collage shot over 12 years, this poignant short is an evocative memento mori that seeks to question the meaning of existence.
