Zachary T.'s rating of the film Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

It's energy and imagination can be infectious, but without efficient plotting, charismatic leads to buoy the mayhem, or jokes that actually land, the zaniness of "Valerian" feels more desperate than anything. Besson's films have also always had questionable attitudes towards women (he's been accused of rape and assault, and sexualized a ten-year-old in "Léon," lest we forget) and this is unfortunately no exception.
