This is about the sixth time I've revisited this film, and viewing this after experiencing more avant garde film, it made me appreciate this in a new light. Piavoli manages to creature a language through film, but what he achieves through natural lighting, and framing is magical. The childhood and old age segments are staggering; although the dance and middle age sequence leaves me indifferent. Light = life & cinema.
Piavoli is prolly the greatest underrated filmmaker we ever had. He might have as well titled the film to la luce attraverso il tempo--- light through time. The sensibility of his imageries and montage is so overwhelming in a good way.
