A seemingly wholesome and benevolent family, the Parkers have always kept to themselves, and for good reason. Behind closed doors, patriarch Frank rules the roost with a rigorous fervor, determined to keep his ancestral customs intact at any cost…
This film is not currently playing on MUBI but 30 other great films are. See what's now showing
Predictable. It feels like you're being dragged into your partner's family dinner and you try your best to pay attention to what they're saying and try to stuff yourself as much as possible, but you're actually just bored and wanna leave.
I think that a lot of people missed this, which is a shame because, unlike some other recent horror movies that have been praised, this one is actually quite good. It's dark and sad and sick and moody. A visual style way above average for what's usual in this kind of films, nice soundtrack, good cast... the ending was exciting and gory! Really nice surprise.
People expected this to be terrifying, but it's not; and that's okay. This film is creepy from start to finish, and they dance around the word that defines what they do to survive. For actors I've never heard of before, they were really great here. The ending is also great and not cheesy. I was really surprised by this film and recommend it to anyone who loves a well made creepy movie.
Ok. This somehow makes you frightened at moments, but then it stops making sense, the plot has holes everywhere and it gets more stupid the more you go through it.
Yeah, good music, good cinematography, but it's just a retarded plot, and that ending is one of the most unnecesary and random things i ever seen. Way too edgy.
A horror movie well put together with a good cast and nice soundtrack. I did not watch the original, but the cinematography on this remake is undeniably beautiful. It starts out with the matriarch of the family passing away unexpectedly, leaving her husband grieving, as he forces their eldest daughter to assume the responsibility for keeping the family tradition, a very gruesome one...
A surprisingly moving and thrilling horror that makes you root for its young misunderstood protagonists. For a premise that involves cannibalism, it is refreshingly understated and un-exploitative. Kudos to the makers for choosing emotional poignancy over gore and shock!
