Two researchers have come to San Francisco to compete for a research grant in Music. One seems a bit distracted, and that was before he meets her. A strange woman seems to have devoted her life to confusing and embarassing him.
This film is not currently playing on MUBI but 30 other great films are. See what's now showing
Despite "The Driver", it was with Bogdanovich that Ryan O'Neal found his most charismatic roles, comedies that fits exemplary his temperament, a formal sophistication with an enchanting serenity, even in face of the most frantic screwball comedy, like this movie. And also, a great example of Bogdanovich's crazy little thing called cinephilia and of San Francisco's immense photogeny, in fact my favorite city.
Bogdanovich, an eloquent director but most important of all an avid cinephile, puts his love for the old screwball comedies in this wacky film that (of course) lacks the charm of the classics it was inspired by.
some hilarious moments save the day.
BOGDANOVICH DEMUESTRA SUS AMPLIOS CONOCIMIENTOS SOBRE "SCREWBALL COMEDY" HOMENAJEANDO A HAWKS.
LA ESCENA DE LA PERSECUCIÓN (YA PARODIADA EN LOS SIMPSONS) DESTILA GRANDEZA TÉCNICA.
MADELINE KAHN, GENIAL.
Vastly entertaining, genuinely funny comedy. Still the only performance from Barbra Streisand that I'll willingly watch. And I have to give a special shout out to Liam Dunn, whose glorious performance as the Judge in the film's penultimate scene is a joy.
A terrific movie.
2nd of Bogz' trilogy of blockbusters from the 70s, doc has some really funny gags and a serviceable plot to deliver those gags. Babs is the star of the show and I don't think she's ever been sexier. And I don't think Kahn has ever been more annoying. A great film not quite a classic, at least that's one mans opinons, mine. 70s icon and OG SNL mainstay buck Henry wrote script with 2 other maroons.
